We crave happiness because we think it is the ultimate goal of life. And we think happiness comes out of fulfilling our desires.

But happiness is not the fulfillment of desire. Rather, it is the desirelessness that gives happiness.

Some people pursue spiritual enlightenment for all the wrong reasons, and then pursue the path using all the wrong methods.

They pursue enlightenment because they believe being enlightened solves all worldly problems. It doesn’t. You still need to pay the bills, and deal with the assholes at work or at counters. You suddenly don’t get a free pass to Disneyland or a free business class ticket to Tokyo.

Well, you do get a free pass to the biggest amusement park ever created called Earth, but that’s a different story….

The point is even after you are enlightened, you can get an appendicitis or get hit by lightening.
